“The EU directives on fair trial rights in criminal proceedings”

4-6 March 2016, Athens, Greece

Criminal lawyers from Greece, Italy, Malta, and Cyprus can apply now for Fair Trials’ Practitioner Training on the new EU Directives on fair trial rights in criminal proceedings (Directive 2010/64/EU on the right to interpretation & translation, Directive 2012/13/EU on the right to information and Directive 2013/48/EU on the right of access to a lawyer). The course will tell you all you need to know about these important new measures and related EU law.

Delivered in partnership with the Centre for European Constitutional Law (CECL) and local legal experts from Fair Trials’ network, the course will help you to use the Directives to challenge systemic issues in your own jurisdiction using new innovative advocacy techniques.

Application deadline: 3 January 2016 (successful candidates informed by 8 January)

Cost: There is no charge for the training. Your accommodation on the nights of 4 and 5 March will be provided (for non-local participants only), as well as breakfast and lunch on the training days. We will also provide a complimentary networking dinner on 5 March. You will only need to cover the cost of your travel to and from Athens, and dinner on the first night.

- Directive on the Right to Interpretation and Translation in criminal proceedings;
- Directive on the Right to Information in criminal proceedings; and
- Directive on the Right to Access a Lawyer in criminal proceedings.
“Local Focus” module delivered by the Centre for European Constitutional Law and local experts from Fair Trials’ Legal Experts Advisory Panel to help you use the EU Directives most effectively in your own jurisdiction.
Learn about key developments within different Member States and the ways in which the Directives are being used strategically to tackle systemic poor practices.
Meet other lawyers from around Europe and share experiences and ideas of innovative ways to protect defendants’ rights.
